Justin Townes Earle’s playing a free in store show at Amoeba in Hollywood tonight at 7 and then he’s at the Echo tomorrow night with Joe Pug. I love going to see good, authentic musicians play at Amoeba, except sometimes it can be a little disturbing to see washed-up, burnt-out, Hollywood douchebag musicians with Nikki Six’s haircut and Jimmy Carter’s face have an epiphany of what real music is 25 years too late, as they force a flyer on that greasy hipster chick who’s looking for a band so obscure they haven’t even heard of themselves and clearly has no interest in coming to see your 80’s metal “tribute” band play on the strip, and no, just because you can’t find your old album in either the used cd section or the clearance bin, doesn’t mean you’re the obscure band she’s looking for. It’s sad, but it’s inevitable. Anyway, still looking forward to it- should be a good crowd other than that guy.
